A Comfortable, Warm Home

About Me

A Comfortable, Warm Home

Mild weather is one of the things I love the best about the southern United States. I’ve lived in this region of the country all of my life. During the winter season, I rarely see snow or sleet. In fact, I sometimes wear short sleeves during the cold weather months. However, I occasionally need to bundle up in one of my favorite, colorful coats, jackets, or sweaters. And, I also have to run my heater at nighttime. Thankfully, my husband and I scheduled an appointment with an HVAC contractor this past fall, so we are confident that our heater will last through the winter. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common solutions to a broken heating system. Enjoy!

4 Tips To Help Prepare Your AC For Spring And The Hot Summer To Come

Spring months will bring a lot of chores and maintenance that needs to be done around your home. Some of these chores include preparing your home for warmer weather, which can include AC maintenance to ensure your cooling is ready for the change of weather to come. If you are ready to prepare you cooling for spring, here are some tips to help you with the chores that your air conditioning needs:

1. Checking The AC For Damaged Or Corroded Parts

When you get ready to start your AC, you will want to do a self-inspection first. There are many issues that you will want to check for, such as damaged parts. This can be corrosion on parts in the system or a cover to the outdoor unit. It can also be things like fins on a condensing coil being bent. Some of these you may be able to fix yourself, but problems with mechanical parts may require the help of a professional HVAC technician.

2. Inspecting Electrical Wiring And Connections That May Be Worn

Electrical wiring can be something else that you need to deal with during spring maintenance. Check the AC unit to make sure all the wiring is connected and not damaged. You can turn off the HVAC and tape any wires that have damage on them.  Calling the AC repair service may be a good idea to have these wires replaced to prevent problems later.

3. Cleaning The Outdoor Heat Pump To Prepare For Warm Weather

The outdoor condensing coil of your AC can become dirty over the fall and winter months. To solve this issue, use a leaf blower or shop vacuum to clean any leaves and fallen debris out of the system. You can also turn the system off and clean it with a light detergent to prevent any problems with debris.

4. Changing Filters, Cleaning Vents, Checking Batteries And Service Repairs

Spring is also a good time to change the filter and check all the vents of your AC. You will want to make sure that they are all open and in the correct position for good air flow. You may also want to check the batteries and settings on your thermostat. Calling a service technician and having repairs done to your system can also help prepare your AC for the spring months.

These are some of the maintenance tasks that you may need to your air conditioner this spring. If you need help with repairs and other service tasks you cannot do yourself, contact an HVAC technician and have them help you prepare for the warm weather. For more information, check out websites like
