A Comfortable, Warm Home

About Me

A Comfortable, Warm Home

Mild weather is one of the things I love the best about the southern United States. I’ve lived in this region of the country all of my life. During the winter season, I rarely see snow or sleet. In fact, I sometimes wear short sleeves during the cold weather months. However, I occasionally need to bundle up in one of my favorite, colorful coats, jackets, or sweaters. And, I also have to run my heater at nighttime. Thankfully, my husband and I scheduled an appointment with an HVAC contractor this past fall, so we are confident that our heater will last through the winter. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common solutions to a broken heating system. Enjoy!

Avoid These 3 Mistakes With Your Air Conditioning System

With spring and summer almost here, many people are gearing up for the cooling season. That means you need to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to handle the warm summer months. Unfortunately, many people end up making costly mistakes with their unit that end up hurting them more than helping them. Check out some of the common mistakes homeowners make with their air conditioning system.

Not changing the air filter.

Your system uses an air filter to catch all of the contaminants in the air and filter them out of your home. However, that air filter has to be changed on a regular basis. If you don't change out the air filter, it will end up getting clogged. Once the filter is clogged, your system is going to end up having to work much harder just to try and keep your home at the right temperature. This could end up causing you to spend more money in repairs just to keep your unit working properly. You are far better off inspecting the filter in your unit every month or two during peak cooling season.

Forgoing maintenance.

Oftentimes, people end up ignoring regular maintenance on their unit. They figure that since their unit is working properly, there is no need to mess with it. However, that isn't the case. Regular maintenance can detect problems before they turn into something major. If you have a Freon leak or a problem with your drip pan, regular maintenance would catch these things. Forgoing maintenance could end up leaving you with a broken down unit in the middle of the sweltering summer months.

Not getting the right-sized unit.

Many feel that a bigger unit is going to be better for their home. However, that isn't the case. You need to get a unit that is the right size for your individual home. Buying a unit that is too large or too small will cause your system to cycle on and off more frequently. This leads to unnecessary wear and tear on your system. In the end, you are left with a system that needs repairs due to all of the excess usage that could have been avoided.

By making sure you don't make one of the mistakes above, you can make sure your system is going to work great for the future and the here and now. If you have questions, ask an air conditioning specialist like one from Allzone Air Conditioning & Heating Corp.
